The kickoff was deep and Double Shot began their return.
Young Life attempted to make a play but held the runner
while pulling the flag. Sure enough a yellow
hankie landed on the field turf at Juanita High School
with only two seconds on the clock.
Two seconds. That's all that separated a 7-0 halftime
lead. Double Shot QB, Jason Carter took the snap
and started scrambling away from Young Life's aggressive
rush. Carter ran up the left sideline and as Young
Life approached him turned and lateraled the ball across
the field to a wide open Carlos Clark. Clark
scored and the extra point was good tying the score at
7.
If you think about it, the score could of and probably should
have been 7-0 in favor of Young Life.
As the second half transpired Double Shot scored two TD's and
Young Life couldn't find their rhythm.
Now think back to the offside's penalty that Young Life was
penalized for as Brett VanVoorhis intercepted Jason
Carter's pass. Does Brett not run it back?
Is the penalty truly on Young Life? How precious
is the time that is used to run back an apparent
touchdown that may be called back?
Sure enough the interception was called back and Double Shot
scored, eventually winning by 20 points.
Last year league MVP and QB Jason Carter lost in the
championship game. This year league MVP and QB
Braden Richey lost the championship game.
Will next year be different? |
