The difference with
Canyon Creek this year is the direction of five year pro
Jeff Forde. Forde has accepted coaching duties and
has his team playing "small ball" so the opponent
doesn't have a lot of time with the ball. Last
week the Replacementz only had the ball twice in the
first half. This week Canyon Creek ran routes of
five to ten yards and worked their way down the field
securing a chance to win. Two key interceptions
helped their cause and for the first time in three years they
are 2-0 and a chance to go 3-0 with their next two
opponents, Eastside Thunder and the Patriots both not
having wins.
In other games, the Mean Machine bounced back from a week one loss to upend Team Mother 22-13. Their road to
recovery doesn't get any better as they face what will
be an angry Arsenal team next week at 9:30.
The Replacementz also bounced back from a week one loss and
defeated the Patriots who still seem to be searching for
an identity. The Replacementz offensive attack is
simple. Buy time for QB Eric Simonson and he'll
throw it deep to any one of his talented receivers.
After starting the 2006 season 0-2, Young Life is now 2-0
with a strong possibility of going 3-0 after playing
Team Mother next Saturday morning at 8:30.
The 0-2 teams this year are the Patriots (don't count
them out yet), Eastside Thunder and Team Mother.
All have stiff challenges and may fall to a damaging
0-3.

Canyon
Creek quarterback Jeff Forde, has his team overachieving
as they sit in first place in the division along with
the Antioch Saints. Canyon Creek upset Double Shot
for their biggest win in two years. |
For the first time in league
history both the number one and two ranked teams in the league
lost in the same week.
Antioch Saints came in as heavy underdogs to the best
dressed team in the league: Arsenal.
Antioch QB Dan Taylor was coming off his worst year as
an athlete in the Premier League and contemplated retirement.
It was the persuasion of new coach, Jason Durbin and the
addition of a Starbucks team to firm up the roster that prompted
Taylor to play one more year.
Since Antioch wasn't really competitive last year,
people may forget that Antioch played for four straight
championships over the past five years only to fall short.
They have a nucleolus of a good team and are very big and
strong. Arsenal found out just how strong they were on
Saturday.
Former all star and sack champ, Rob Groves led a
defensive line that gave Arsenal QB and 2006 Offensive Player of
the year, Noah Roehl, fits. That, along with a big play
from Taylor to WR, Jon Skeith and a botched punt return by
Arsenal spelled dome for the defending champs. Antioch won
14-8 and jumped to number one in the power rankings. In
other games, Canyon Creek executed a
perfect game plan against an extremely talented Double
Shot team that fell short 14-12. This was the
second straight week that Canyon Creek upset a high
ranking team. Last week they survived against an
equally talented team, the Replacementz.
