“Watch out for the fake!”
An Antioch player shouted. Snap was good, hold was good,
kick wasGood! Pomper cleared the goal post by ten yards. The
defending champs were 1:15 away from returning to the
semi-finals for a chance to defend the Fishers of Men
Memorial trophy.
Antioch took four strikes to the end zone but couldn’t
connect or score. Game over, Arsenal wins and faces the
number one team in the league, Young Life.
With this kind of action, who needs TNT?
Playing for Pride Championship 5:30 PM
The Patriots will host Team Mother for the Playing for
Pride Championship. Team Mother comes off their first
win of the season, a forfeit over a depleted Mean
Machine team that only showed up with four players. The
Patriots on the other hand came fully staffed and ready
to show the CP Premier Flag Football League world that
they can be competitive beating up Eastside Thunder
14-12 and holding all world receiver Dave Clark to only
two catches for 71 yards.
This will be the first match up between these two teams
all year and we are going to lean towards experience.
Our Pick: Patriots: 15 Team Mother: 12
ROUND II
PLAYOFF
PREDICTIONS
Double Shot at Canyon Creek 6:30 PM
In this rematch of division rivals, expect Double Shot
to make enough adjustments to Canyon Creek’s rush and
Defensive Player of the Year candidate Casey Anderson to
come away with a victory. In their last meeting, Jason
Carter was abused by the boys in blue throwing two
costly interceptions to you guessed it, Casey Anderson.
Double Shot is angry, this is their only loss of the
season. That “revenge” factor will be enough for us to
go with them.
Our Pick: Double Shot: 22 Canyon Creek: 14
Arsenal at Young Life 7:30 PM
If there is another team in the league that is just as
prepared as Arsenal it would have to be Young Life.
Their impressive season continues with a rematch of week
four a 20-14 upset over the defending champs. Sure,
Arsenal will have the “revenge” factor but Young Life QB
and MVP candidate Braden Richey is playing his best
football of his career and has found a rhythm passing to
Blair Foerster, Clyde Crow and Max Fletcher. That
combined with the rush of Tyler Kincaid should be enough
of a hindrance to Arsenal that they pull out a narrow
victory.
Our Pick: Young Life: 18 Arsenal: 12 OT 2x

Canyon Creek (pictured)
and Young Life both came to scout the playoff games in
Round I. What they found were two teams that are
capable of winning with a long field goal. |
Field Goals the
Difference in Round I of the Playoffs
“Don’t line up over center! Don’t line up over
center.” Double Shot coach Jason Carter screamed. He was
trying to get his players attention as the Replacementz
lined up for a 15 yard field goal with :02 seconds on
the clock.
“Ten” shouted the field official.
The play clock was ticking fast and the Replacementz
offense line braced themselves for a monster Double Shot rush.
Two of Double Shot’s defenders crossed the line anticipating the
snap.
“He touched me, he touched me!” Shouted a Replacmentz
offense lineman. The Double Shot defenders lunged backwards
before the ball was snapped.
The ball was snapped and Double Shot rushed all nine
defensive players blowing up the center in the process and
blocking what would have been the game winning field goal with
zero seconds on the clock.
Is this College Football? The NFL perhaps? No. This is
the CP Premier Flag Football League playoff edition. This is sit
on the edge of your seat drama that brings players to their
knees while their opponent dances victoriously. This is the type
of football that you won’t find anywhere else unless you’re
playing in pads.
The opening round of the playoffs started out
spectacular with a gutsy performance by an undermanned
Replacementz team and an aggressive Double Shot squad that
wouldn’t settle for defeat. Two records were set in the game,
Tim Tang of the Replacementz returned an interception 100 yards
for a score and Jason Carter of Double Shot kicked a 46 yard
field goal to gain just enough of an advantage to secure their
victory of 16-14.
With all the drama that occurred in game one surely the
second game between the Antioch Saints and Arsenal couldn’t top
that…or could it? Arsenal QB Noah Roehl continued to struggle
only attempting 13 passes and rushing for measly 10 yards. (A
far cry from last year’s impressive numbers). What you can’t
fault Roehl for is his desire to win, he stood strong in the
pocket in the midst of the Antioch rush finding newly added
offensive player Brian Anderson, who caught four passes for 88
yards and a score.
Antioch’s QB, Dan Taylor, on the other hand couldn’t
escape the fiery Arsenal rush who sacked him seven times.
Through it all Antioch still held the lead for most of the game
leading 8-6 until 1:15 left in the game. Arsenal had been
waiting for this moment all year…well, all of last year…now that
I think about it they’ve been waiting for this moment since we
played with goal posts. Yep, they were going to line up for a 48
yard field goal to take the lead at 9-8. Arsenal is the only
team to have an actual field goal kicker. One that is ready at
all times for extra points and field goal tries. Tonight was the
night, 48 yards away Bryan Pomper gave the signal to holder
Brian Anderson.
