PREDICTIONS
With kickoff to the championship game scheduled for
Saturday, December 1st at 10:00 AM, Young Life can only
hope for a repeat win reminiscent to their championship
win in 2005. Not only in the outcome, but in the
weather as well. That's right, the
weather forecast calls for snow...this Saturday at 9:00 AM.
It was a long shot for the pretty in pink boys of
Young Life two years ago as they were facing the high powered
offense of Antioch. This year is also a long shot to win
against the high powered offense Double Shot that gave them
their only loss of the season in week six, 20-6.
Double Shot comes with finesse and all world receiver
Brian Carter who averages 28.5 yards per catch.
The question is can YL Defensive player of the year
runner up Tyler Kincaid get to Double Shot QB, Jason
Carter. If it snows, we are thinking that Double
Shot's offense will be neutralized and Young Life will
have a chance to muscle them. If it's a clear day,
Double Shot should win their first Fishers of Men
Memorial Trophy. |

Young Life QB Braden
Richey won the 2007 CP Premier Flag Football League with
15 overall votes. He will have a tough challenge
in the championship game as he goes against last year's
MVP, Jason Carter and Double Shot. |
The evening started with
the second annual Playing for Pride game which featured
Team Mother and the Patriots. If the winner of this game
follows the winner of last year, Canyon Creek, their
future looks bright.
The first half started slow, not a lot of intensity on
the field, just good football. The Patriots had kept
Team Mother Gabe Coyne in check most of the first half
and led 14-6. The second half was ugly for Team Mother,
they were manhandled in the second half and ended up
losing 27-6. All Star Matt Rankins finished an
impressive 2007 season with another touchdown and coach
Keith Rankins sees a bright future for the Pats. "I
think it was a successful season" admitted Rankins,
"even though our record didn't show our team's true
potential."
As far as Team Mother goes, they also have a core group
of young, fast players and should compete for a playoff
spot next year.
The officials and fans new the next two games would be
barn burners. Two bitter division rivals facing off for
a chance to play for The Fishers of Men Memorial Trophy.
Double Shot, whose only loss came to Canyon Creek in
week two, faced the division champs in a "win or go
home" game that featured the likes of All Star QB, Jason
Carter of Double Shot and Canyon Creek defensive end
Mike Seekins. Who would have thought that it would be
All Star offensive power house Josiah Herrera that would
get to Carter not once, or twice, but three times Carter
was sacked for a loss. What Canyon Creek may not have
known was sacks don't bother last year's MVP. Jason
Carter scrambled enough to score on a QB keeper and
added a second half score for a 13-7 lead. It was Double
Shot's defense that stepped it up in the came holding
the high powered Canyon Creek offense to zero points.
The only Canyon Creek score was a defensive fumble
recovery for a touchdown by Mike Oliphant in the closing
seconds of the first half. Canyon Creek had one last
drive in the final minutes but fell short ensuring
Double Shot's return to the championship game.
The last two champions faced off in the last semi-final
game of the night; the winner would face Double Shot in
the championship game. Current champs Arsenal vs former
champs Young Life in a rematch of the 2005 semi-final
game in which Young Life won. In the first half Arsenal
cut into Young Life like a hot knife melts through
butter, between the 20's Arsenal QB Noah Roehl looked
like his 2006 Offense Player of the Year form finding
several targets for big gains. The problem was they only
scored one touchdown. With the score tied in the closing
seconds of the first half Arsenal decided to go for a
touchdown instead of kicking a field goal which would
have put them up 10-7. During half time, Young Life
coach John Heywood pulled his defense together and asked
what was going on. Young Life's defense then changed
their approach to Arsenal's passing attack and let's
just say put away the butter.
Young Life's DE Tyler Kincaid terrorized OT Andrew
Stewart on the right side of the line and although
didn't record a sack, was enough of a presence to
disturb Roehl's throwing motion. Young Life pulled it
out in the end defeating Arsenal 13-7.
Come one, come all to the championship game on
Saturday, December 1st at 10:00 AM
Juanita High School. All Star game to immediately
follow. |
